Lance Pollack, PhD

 

Lance Pollack PhDDr. Lance M. Pollack holds a doctorate in Human Development and Aging from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He was the first data analyst hired by CAPS in November 1986. His first assignment at CAPS was to manage and analyze the AIDS Behavioral Research Project, a longitudinal study of a convenience sample of several hundred gay men living in San Francisco, which ultimately encompassed 9 annual rounds of data collection from 1984 through 1992 and served as the “launching point” for CAPS. Dr. Pollack has worked on almost every major random digit dial telephone survey executed at CAPS including the National AIDS Behavioral Surveys (database manager and senior data analyst), the National AIDS Behavioral Methodology Studies (database designer and statistical consultant), the National Sexual Health Survey(database manager, senior data analyst, assistant field director), and the Urban Men’s Health Study (co-investigator, field director, database manager, senior data analyst). He has also served as the database manager and data analyst for all studies involving the MPowerment Project, a community-level intervention for HIV prevention among young gay men. Dr. Pollack has authored or co-authored over 70 publications and serves as the senior consultant for statistical, methodological, analytic, and database management issues in the Health Survey Research Unit at CAPS. He also offers consultation on survey research methods and quantitative analysis under the auspices of both the Methods Core in CAPS and Clinical Research Support Services in the Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCSF.
