John Hamiga has been involved in HIV prevention for more than ten years. He was one of the original coordinators for the Mpowerment Project in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when it was established by CAPS as a research project. He remained as lead coordinator on the project as it transitioned into to a successful long term program of New Mexico AIDS Services (NMAS). In 2003, John moved to San Francisco to work as a technical assistance provider on a CAPS research project investigating how evidence based interventions like Mpowerment can be successfully implemented across the country. He¹s traveled the country training hundreds of people on the Mpowerment Project model and enjoys hearing how other agencies adapt the intervention. He’s self avowedly addicted to myspace (myspace.com/Hamiga), astronomy, ipods, vintage Star Wars t-shirts and recently retro music like the Pet Shop Boys.
