This presentation will provide information on various adherence biomarkers used in HIV prevention research, as well as an opportunity to discuss ways to think about incorporating these biomarkers in your own studies.
Monica Gandhi MD, MPH is a Professor of Medicine and Associate Chief in the Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases, and Global Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She is also the Medical Director of the HIV/AIDS Clinic (“Ward 86”) at San Francisco General Hospital. Dr. Gandhi’s research efforts have focused on HIV/AIDS in U.S. women and investigating objective methods to measure antiretroviral adherence and exposure in HIV treatment and prevention settings, such as determining drug levels in hair samples. Her recent work has expanded to measuring adherence to anti-TB drugs in the context of latent and active TB infection. Dr. Gandhi also has an interest in HIV education and mentorship and is co-director of the UCSF CFAR Mentoring Program at UCSF.
