TEPOT - HIV Prevention Enhancement Program (HPEP)
In collaboration with National Asian Pacific American Families Against Substance Abuse (NAPAFASA), TEPOT’s HPEP program aims to bridge substance abuse and HIV prevention efforts nationwide by providing culturally sensitive HIV/AIDS health education to clients enrolled in substance-abuse treatment programs.
Through the course of 2 complimentary 3-hour workshop sessions, the trainer introduces discussion and community-building activities to educate clients about the HIV/AIDS risks associated with drug use and sexual contact.
HPEP curriculum addresses:
- The interplay of culture and risk: How HIV impacts Asians and Pacific Islanders
- HIV/AIDS basics
- Substance Use and HIV
- Client empowerment in negotiating health choices
Goals:
- Increase awareness among clients about HIV-related risk behavior
- Bridge recovery with risk-reduction for STIs and HIV
- Empower clients to protect themselves and negotiate safer choices
